Laura J Ewing, non-objective art
About Laura Ewing
I am a non-objective painter who explores interchange between deep unconscious layers of paint and an overlay of deliberate gestures building dialogue and integration.
My process is first to build a three-dimensional color space by putting down coats of paint on Masonite or clay board and then sanding them away to reveal composition in their structure. I use acrylics and vary their opacity, luminescence and reflectivity. They often become opalescent, changing color in varied light. The layers begin to talk to one another as depth is uncovered. I add the final layer, bold and sweeping, to complete the composition and narrative.
I am a Social Worker and this development of foreground and background conversation parallels the therapeutic process. It creates a path for my own self-discovery as well as analogous exploration in the clients I serve.
